Back in Black

Today was a nice, yet unusually rainy day here in Nevada. The streets were covered in puddles and the drainage ditches were rushing with water. With these circumstances at hand, I decided to break in my new boots I recently purchased at Target for $35 minus the $25 gift card I used...what can I say, I'm a thrifty lady. The shirt was also a recent purchase from Nordstrom Rack for $25 which I bought specifically to wear with these faux leather vintage-ish pants I bought at a thrift store in Reno for $10. The vintage necklace is one my grandma gave me and the watch, which needs new batteries, I bought at Savers a couple years ago.

Strange Brew

 Jeepers & Pippa
Vegas is too damn hot so my brother & I opted to take photos inside. I had to get a bit more creative to avoid creating some lame indoor shots. You sure as hell better enjoy these action shots because it was a bit of a work out to jump and flip my hair until we got the perfect shot.

Vintage Hawaiian dress (the label says Honolulu)- $10 at Salvation Army
Shoes- $6 at Savers

Lollapalooza

Before heading back to Nevada from Wisconsin, my brother, cousin and I just had to stop by Lollapalooza for a day mainly to see the headliner, The Black Keys, as well as some other bands we're quite fond of. It turned out to be an excellent way to close out our summer in the midwest.
I'm wearing an El Camino Black Keys shirt that made me gasp when I came across it at a THRIFT STORE yeah, that's right... $6.40. The shorts are another pair of hand dyed and studded cut off shorts that I bought at the Gypsy Den (Similar to the ones I wore at Bonnaroo this year). The vintage beaded purse is from a thrift store in Reno, I bought it for $4.00. And to top it all off, I'm wearing my favorite shape of sunglasses (round that is) which I bought two for $8.00 at the Maxwell Street Days sale at Ragstock in Madison, WI.

Posters of Paris

I love all the Marie Antoinette-like paintings.
(Clearly^ I need to take an art history class to get down the art terminology)
I was so shocked by how mod this 1820s couch looks! And the wallpaper... so cool.

What a cutie & a beauty in that little black beret.

Today I went down to the Milwaukee Museum of Art with my mom, cousins, and aunt to check out the Posters of Paris exhibition. The exhibition, obviously, featured old posters that decorated the walls of Paris back in the good old days. Photos were not allowed inside the Paris exhibition so I don't have any photos to share of that but above are a few of the hundreds of pieces in the museum that really caught my eye.
I wore an I heart Ronson dress from a Buffalo Exchange-type store in Reno called Junkee- $14,
A vintage black beaded purse from a thrift store- $4,
Shoes from Nordstrom Rack,
& the newest item of my closet, the black beret, was bought at the museum gift shop for $16.

Bell Bottoms

So this is a little weird... this is the first outfit post in a while that hasn't been taken outside or somewhere more interesting. Just as my mom was about to click some photos of me in this, it started pouring rain so we decided to go inside and find a spot. It worked out just fine though because these pants deserve to have all the attention in the photo of its debut post.
Jean shirt: Goodwill in Reno- $3
Vintage bell bottoms: St. Vincent de Paul in Madison, WI- $11.50
Vintage Neiman Marcus sandals: St. Vincent de Paul in Baraboo, WI- $1

Sunflower Sailor

Sorry for the photo-overload here... we just had so much fun snapping away when we decided to pull over and buy some sunflowers after noticing a sweet little lady picking dozens of them.
You may be wondering why I'm actually wearing makeup for once in these photos. Well, it's because we were on our way back from yet another vintage photo shoot at my aunt's house! It was so-much-fun. We had our hair & make-up done a few times throughout each day of the two-day shoot. And i'm going to shut up now so I can leave some mystery until I post some of the photos on here.

P.S. The adorable sailor dress is one of the many great vintage pieces my aunt gave me... I can't wait to wear & share photos of the rest of them.

Treasure

My mom and I went to a town-wide garage sale this morning in hopes of finding some vintage goods and we came out with a full car of treasures. At one point in the morning I was saying how awesome it would be to go to a garage sale with a substantial amount of vintage clothes to choose from rather than seeing an ok piece at one here & there and, sure enough, at the last garage sale we stopped at, my eyes widened as I approached a rack labeled "Vintage". I grabbed 4 dresses and one two piece skirt & shirt set and this 1970s lemon yellow beauty above is one of my favorites coming in at the humble price of $3...Woo hoo!

Bark Cloth

Finally, a chilly day has arrived here in Wisconsin! I took advantage of this nice weather by taking a run this morning and then wearing this 3/4 length sleeve dress I picked up on sale at H&M for $10. The print of the dress reminds me of one that would be on some vintage bark cloth... hence the post's title.
The shoes are from Nordstrom Rack and the arm candy is Jeepers, my most prized accessory.

Taliesin

Today, my mom, sister, and I toured Frank Lloyd Wright's home and current architecture school, Taliesin.  I wish I could have taken more photos to share but photos were not allowed inside of the buildings. I guess you'll have to experience his work yourself at either Taliesin or Taliesin West.
Above is a photo of what I wore on the tour:
Shirt: $6 at Nordstrom Rack
Skirt: $2.80 at Savers thrift store
Vintage handbag: $3 at a thrift store in Vegas

Summer Wonderland

Tonight I went out with my family to the midwest's traditional "Friday Night Fish Fry" at the most beautiful golf course, Trappers Turn.
All of the clothing and accessories you see in the post were thrifted. The Juicy Couture Dress was bought at a Savers for $5.60, the Kenneth Cole Reaction flats, which retail for $70, were purchased at a thrift store in Lake Tahoe for $3, the vintage purse was just recently purchased for $8 at a Salvation Army, and the little vintage flower earrings were also just purchased at a St. Vincent de Paul's  a.k.a. "Vinnie's".
