Back in Black...

...And cream—well, and a few golds.
Anyways, the point is, I'm back to bloggin' yo!
My last post was April 2013 and even then my blogging wasn't as consistent as it should have been.
So, as one of the bullets on my list of New Year's resolutions, I will be bringing my thrifty ensembles to the web at least twice a week.
I just barely caught the sun to get some photos for my first 2014 post today. My 16 year old brother (who took many of my previous blog photos) and his friend (with his new T3i in hand) snapped these photos for me today. I'd say they did a rad job!

Snow Gypsy

 ^mid-sentence mouthage
YoOoo everyone!
I just got home from a nice getaway weekend in Utah. Although the fresh mountain air was lovely, my desert-rat self is happy to back in 80 degree Nevada weather.
As mentioned a few posts ago, i'm now working at Anthropologie, which is more like a source of an expense than an income for me as I've been making use of that employee discount quite a bit lately. This dress is one I bought with my discount at the Fashion Show Mall's Free People last friday. It is sooo lovely and butter-soft. Definitely a must-have dress for this spring/summer.
The coat i'm wearing is a Roxy one that I bought at a thrift store in Reno last year. It is the perfect thickness and looks so good over everything. You can see me wearing it in the post Nature Walk.
My mom bought me these fun Betsey Johnson over-the-knee socks a couple christmases ago and the boots are from Target.

Fashion's Night Out- Las Vegas

Beatrice, George Kotsiopoulos, & I

For the Las Vegas Fashion's Night Out, my friend Beatrice and I went to The Shoppes at The Palazzo where George Kotsiopoulos hosted the event with a fashion show which included a special appearance by Joan Rivers. Beatrice and I went into Chloé were they handed us pink cotton candy while we strolled around the store, drooling over all the beautiful pieces.
I wore a dress from Nasty Gal, shoes from H&M, a long gold vest from a thrift store, & a leopard vintage purse that I borrowed from my mom.

Henri Bendel Las Vegas Grand Opening

Last night I attended the grand opening for the Henri Bendel store here in Las Vegas. I wish I had a photo to show of the beautiful store but I guess I was so distracted by the beautiful handbags and jewelry that I didn't think to take out my camera, that is until, of course, the moment I had the opportunity to meet the beautiful Miss Lucy Hale. She is a real sweet lady. I was quite chipper when she told me that my vintage dress looks like Chanel where I really bought it at an auction in Wisconsin this summer for two bucks! The rest of my outfit consisted of my H&M shoes (about $4), a vintage glitter belt from a thrift store ($1), and a vintage brown snakeskin or alligator purse I borrowed from my mom.
See a beautiful photo of the new Henri Bendel store here on the Las Vegas Review Journal site.

Spanish Harlem

"Weather-wise it's such a lovely day..."
Since today was a little cooler than the 100+ degree days we've been having, I opted for this lightweight shirt I recently bought at Desert Industries Thrift Store for $3. The Levi shorts were a pair pants that I bought at Savers, chopped off the legs, and then distressed for around 6 bucks. I just recently purchased these shoes at H&M... here's the deal on the price of these: So I get to the checkout at H&M, ready to pay about $35 bucks for these shoes, complete the transaction, and then get home... a few days later I'm having a little buyer's remorse, so I look at the receipt and the guy at the checkout must have punched in the wrong numbers and charged me about $5 for these babies! Woo Hoo! I guess thrifty is just my destiny. The vintage turquoise bracelet was a gift from my mom last Christmas and the sombrero earrings (yes I said sombrero earrings) were a good thrift find last summer in Wisconsin for $2... I'm trying this new thing where I'm actually wearing my jewelry rather than letting it collect dust in my jewelry box.

Bark Cloth

Finally, a chilly day has arrived here in Wisconsin! I took advantage of this nice weather by taking a run this morning and then wearing this 3/4 length sleeve dress I picked up on sale at H&M for $10. The print of the dress reminds me of one that would be on some vintage bark cloth... hence the post's title.
The shoes are from Nordstrom Rack and the arm candy is Jeepers, my most prized accessory.

Bonnaroo

The Bonnaroo arch
Blowin' Bubbles
Devon & I eating delicious freshly baked Amish Doughnuts
Sarah Barthel of Phantogram....I love her.
H & M sheer shirt- I think it was $5 on sale
Super old converse
A Ralph Lauren backpack I got at a thrift store for like $15
& galaxy shorts pictured in more detail below
Thom Yorke... a name that needs no introduction.
Hand-painted galaxy shorts from The Gypsy Den. I'm in love.
We spotted Reggie Watts on the ferris wheel just before we went to his set in the Comedy Tent. Hilarious dude.
The last night at Bonnaroo & it was raining. I'm wearing a thrifted dress, my go-to spiked necklace from The Gypsy Den, and a sweater from The Gap's sale.
So basically Bonnaroo was/is awesome. We scored on some unusually cool weather for the fest this year and we were not complaining. This was my first year attending and it was amazing. And even though I did go to a festival that was hundreds of miles away from home, I still managed to stay true to my thrifty-ness. Instead of paying for a $300 four day pass plus camping and $240 travel expenses, we decided to volunteer at the fest through the Work Exchange Team (WET) which covered our full ticket, camping, and three $8 meal tokens to use at the festival vendors... it was a really great deal.
XXX
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed some of these photos I managed to take. Below is link to a video compilation of some of the acts I saw over the weekend... enjoy!
PS.
These are the shows I made it to:
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Phantogram, The Beach Boys, Aziz Ansari, Reggie Watts, Phish, Rodrigo y Gabriela, The Roots, The Devil Makes Three, The Cave Singers, Alice Cooper, fun., and Ludacris.

Lost Cat

I hope this Gato finds its home!
So, it's been a little while and now here I am, diving into my second week of the new semester. I think Core Humanities is going to kill me; I hate trying to decipher all that ancient text.
My American Popular Music class, however, is going to be the beez kneez.

Sequin Tube Top//a past "dress up" article from when I was a kid
